Disruption - Distraction - Rebound

Rebound it is

I got awaken. Or I got a pink flowers - blue-sky type of a sun stroke.

This PINK tree , fully in bloom, was waving towards me enthusiastically. It did shock me with its wild appearance. Have I been here before? How could have I possibly missed such a marvellous distraction. I heartbeat stopped in awe to take in all the blooming flowers, while my mind was suddenly concerned with the sudden loss of attention. Tell that to a practitioner of awareness, left, right, center, south, north, east, west. All around awareness practitioner.

I believed that all flowers spoke to me, in all colours, levels of blooming that there was an entire universe whispering even to me before every new buds coming out. It is a good belief to hang onto.

The sudden pink explosion of new blooms, led me to dig a bit deeper into my various forms of escapism while on vacation. The fact that I am enjoying a vacation with an open end built in and without a return ticket yet, seems to be disruptive it itself. I simply could not measure the effects of in until recently, struck by the pink blooms , still wondering where has my mind been travelling too without my presence.

I start all my vacations, ever since I have been in school, with the active imagination that I will read so much and I will write even more so. To my delight,I have managed to finish two books. And go through few other summaries to see what to approach next, without really settling for one. I would be quite open, over a period of thirty days or so. So far and beyond any of my expectations. My imagination stands still strongly by my side and tell me not to worry at all. I will accomplish all my reading dreams, we just leave the time as an open end. Who can predict what will be next? Thanks imaginary friend, keeping my dreams alive. Good rebound.

Imagining I play anthropologist and look into my day by day life on a vacation, I could only report, not from the notes I took meticulously, but only from my vivid memory, that all holidays start with a pre-condition, an ideal, a romantic lucid dream where I can manifest everything that I was putting off for months. Like reading and writing. In a new disciplined way with a list and a schedule. I peruse posts and sites about writers’ retreats, communities, I enjoy their vistas, lakes, swimming pools and see many people smiling and holding notebooks and books everyday. Does it really work like that? From all I can report anthropologically on my own patterns, any change in environment can only create a temporary disruption, a change of all patterns, adjusting to all there is time including a time zone and rooster alarm clocks, while going to sleep on barking dogs lullabies. This is a simple observation on how I adapt, become flexible to new formats, new calls, new demands, newness. The meaning of presence here is disruptive, because it demands a form of action. Something must be done, must be acted upon. We are not here to day dream. We are here to act. A life transition from living on your own to a transition of cohabitation it is disruptive! And that was the medicine needed at this moment in time.

There is both an element of awe and candid absurdity when I notice that I keep forgetting about the potential disruptions and distractions, before I embark on a plane. This, to my amusement, has nothing to do with the country, circumstances, people I meet. The moment this separation appears, the interruption of daily rituals, the separation from the place we call home, we suddenly have the chance of a blank slate. A chance to reinterpret, a chance to recreate, a chance to change our own dreams! The ones about reading and writing.

Not the ones about enjoying a Turkish coffee and chasing for hearts in the cups.

The Turkish coffee is the rebound best friend for everything. You wake up at five am, before the first roosters start to wake up, the smell of the coffee wakes up all your senses. You come back home from errands and what-nots, you fix yourself quickly a coffee. The Romanian coffee is very similar in preparation, over the stove top, just the size is double. Double rebound act. The sun hides behind the clouds and the temperatures allow you to sit outdoors in the courtyard, one more coffee please.

That pink blooms turned on for sure a switch in my mind. What have I done the past one month of holidays of open-end? Do I have to keep track even? I was so struck that I perhaps did stop noticing. Noticing time. Go away. This and the Mercury retrograde - as enjoyable as ever.

I do realise that living solo brings in some disruption on its own. All rituals become too ingrained, the routine seems so settled, the going and the coming, the working schedule, all of it seems very anchored and very real, even the spontaneous walks or catching up with friends seem anchored. I do not know how and why I have found that to be as strong as my imaginary friends. It is real in that particular location and setting, where my home is, but it is not a transferrable skill or pattern. I would call this a moment of awareness like no other. I took a good look at what I have been not-doing for the past month and I can admit, hand-on-heart that I could not find a solid, grounded anchor.

As a experienced practitioner of rebounds, I did find other gems. All welcomed with their surprises. Kids and their adventures are one side of the story. Boundless joy and energy that would be hard to even try to describe. I think we should all wear a go-pro with us, on permanent loop when playing with a two year old kid. The genius, the improv acts, the dialogue, the stumbles and laughter, or demanding cry, are nothing short of a miracle. This could be a story for another time.

The other treats I delight with, with or without a coffee, would be finding a good series, with as many seasons as possible. Seriously, if there is something certain that I can report, besides the not-reading enough and not- writing enough, would be my encounter with The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel. (I could not link the show here, no idea the reason and apologies).

This show had a quick hook for me right there with the 50’s. A big attraction with the costumes( a lot being Dior even if we cannot ask too much how is this all affordable besides the trust fund), with the manners, with the cookware and home decor, cars and everything. An even bigger attraction with stories about women trying to be themselves and become a self-sustaining entity within their own rights. This is real rebound story anytime for me. Mrs. Maisel is a mother of two, faced with a divorce, change of homes and very passionate about becoming a comic, and working as a stand-up comedian in a world where few heard of women taking up such an act, unless they had some singing qualities, or a particular character to impersonate or some facade. Mrs.Maisel jumps in the ocean and learns to swim in a very uncertain world, adapting to many challenges coming her way. I love many things about the series - and I will never stop emphasising the acting. Every single character is played brilliantly. I wonder if I find myself in front of a stage and live theater at times. What I love most, are two huge disruptions in this particular story telling. Mrs. Maisel wants to make it on her own and while doing it, she is surrounded by a village. The relationships rarely end forever. Her ex-husband and her ex-in laws are more than family, they support each other trough highs and lows. The father, as an intellectual and university professor, starts off as an almost outsider until the mother rebels and moves to Paris! Nice move. Mrs. Maisel and Mr.Maisel continue occasionally on and off, take care of the kids, mostly Mr. Maisel and his family, and all seems to work well. Mrs. Maisel finds herself a manager, and oh Susie, to this day, every single performance and scene of yours leaves me in total awe. That is hilarious. Brilliant acting. I am not in season four and fell in love with every single character. Finishing this series, will mean another shock to the system as they make me laugh, cry, mostly grin all the time.

Talking about writing. That is talent! I love the wit and the soul of this show. I love the “do not stop” part. This is for me the anchor and the overarching theme. The ex-husband supports Mrs.Maisel and pushes her to keep believing in her talents and keep being a comic. Mrs. Maisel supports him while opening his bar, under adverse circumstance. Her father comes to enjoy and fully support his wife, while she develops by chance a matchmaker career. We see all characters evolve, go through mishaps, changes in fortunes, telling a story as the neighbours want to hear it, or telling a truth for an entire community to hear it, or simply arguing indoors at home. But we see change, we see adaption, we see disruption and we see distraction. The brilliant comic Lenny Bruce and a big support of Mrs. Maisel talents, burst in tears in one of the episodes seeing that she is stuck and wants to live a life without compromising.

Isn’t it this a beautiful disruptive question? Mrs.Maisel wants to live on her own terms and she keeps saying no to good stuff too by doing this. What is the secret, Lenny unravels - the one we knew all along. “Keep working”. Just keep doing your great work, and we could come one day to even live a life without compromising. A life where a room might be decorated for us in blue, per demand, when booking a gig.

Oh I loved the fourth season finale so much. We might live at times a life without compromising, by escaping, by being good and still implementing change in a hiding spot, what seems to seem life freedom, might be just freedom enough because the sphere of influence is too small, too limited and not scalable. By living a life of authenticity we might chose to live much smaller than any of our dreams. That apparent safe net, even with the glorious effect of making a real impact on real lives, can seem such a big distraction in a bigger scheme of things. And Mrs. Maisel has just been awaken to that. Amazing speec, Mr. Lenny Bruce. It spoke to me in so many ways that I will turn this episode into the punch that needed to disrupt me over my holidays. Yes, all rituals and times and schedules are all having a blast and laugh at me. I know now that I found my achor that was saying “GO FORWARD”, even if that was a trick of Mrs. Maisel imagination under a snow blizzard in New York.

We do find the signs that we want to see, if we can be awaken in time by pink blossoms and a splendid Mrs. Maisel.

Let us then GO FORWARD!
