The DNA storyline of a heart

Imagining as we speak

I had this vivid image last night just when I was about to fall blissfully asleep. That sweet moment when the darkness in the room is so deep, I cannot even sense the blue blinks from the extension cords and charging devices. The darkness takes over and make my eyelids fill with led, as heavy as the rooftop above me. The bliss was welcomed by my own presence, noticing all these changes and slowly knowing that I can just succumb to the power of natural sleep. There is no sweeter moment to notice and to embrace. Here,I am ready for all the dreams. Invite them all in.

The noticing paused. The eyelids suddenly lighten up and I could see the curtains, the green and blue lights and the shape of the furniture around me. The surrendering lasted perhaps ten seconds, a quality I did not wish to measure. I was deep into that present moment.

The noticing paused by the image of a heart. And the sound of a beating heart. Which I have recently witnessed at a check-up. I would not be able to remember at all when was the first or the last time I have listened to a heartbeat. Watching your own heart vibrating, pulsating and beating the drums, has left an imprint on my emotional tracker, that I could only remember days, hundreds of minutes away.

My emotional tracker, is not a real device, and is the one that wakes me up in the middle of the night, allowing me to see all the shapes and lights. Allowing me to welcome back the pulsating heart in the room, on the corridors, in the imprint of other memories too. I have listed to the hearts pulsating before me. Other people in the waiting room have listened to mine.

We would not know anything other than the pulse and the sound of this turbine of an organ that is called our heart.

We would not know if the person before me came light hearted of frightened to have his check-up.

I would know more or less about my own fears, my own higher pulse because it was there, recorded and registered. No need to worry, whispered the practitioner.

We would not know, it occurred to me last night, hundreds of minutes after these heart beats, if the people there came with a broken heart, or with a joyful heart. How was their day one hour before this measurement? How was their day one day earlier? How would we know unless we wear a continuous heart monitor to whisper gentle in our ears:”Do not worry. The pulse went a bit above the norm but it will calm down soon. There is nothing to worry.”

We would not know?

What about the heart itself? Have we wondered if the organ can make a choice?

In my vivid dream last night,I have seen a room full of people. With their hearts on their sleeves, or to be more precise even I am not a painter myself, I have seen all the hearts in everyone’s chest. They were part of their clothing. The organ has been exposed as if in a crystal glass framework and we could look at each other and see how the hearts listened and reacted to our words. Some hearts were very active, pulsating rivers per minute and not really interested in a conversation. Other hearts were vivacious but shy, waiting for a kind word to be utter rather than saying themselves hello first. Some of the hearts had their light dimmed, there were shutters instead of crystal glass and the excuse was” “It is just too hot and sunny outside, I am protecting myself from the heat of the summer.”. Some hearts, perhaps like mine, were very atuned to the sounds and were ready to jump at the first dog bark, and the first door cracking sound in the wind, were perhaps too eager to listen or too please.

There were too……. fill in your blanks. Because we all know better by ourselves.

So I have wondered, if our heart would love to explore and try new experience that we could not offer, perhaps if there was not enough joy during a day, perhaps if there were too many tears during a day, the heart could knock at the crystal glass door and ask the owner” Would you like to exchange places with me for a while”? What would we say? Two hearts no doubt will flutter with excitement - what would that mean?

There was no doubt one strong image that kept me awake for some good hours last night. A choice that we could make for our hearts to flutter healthy, cups full with joy and smiles. How can we offer these experiences on purpose.

At times that might get a bit challenging, and we might be only able to offer quiet and peace. And yet, my heart told me, that is not all there is. There is beauty and there is joy calling you too. Have you not heard your own vibrato? Singing in the air full of life? Imprint this very precious memory on your mind, body and soul. Let this very memory thrive and smile for it.

The second image that came to mind, all excited by the vibrato, was the image of a DNA strand formed of our hearts “mementos”. Like a time capsule. A heart imprint that we could print in real time, and create our own masterpiece, maybe one per decade. A DNA strand that could show us the moment we fell in love first time( here we go, in the kindergarden), the moment we held a kitten in our arms and we fed them milk followed by the moment when the kitten escaped away and returned two days later. The moments we were rushing to the market to buy flowers for our primary school teacher before the class, as early as seven am in the morning. The moment when the teacher would stroke our hair and would tell us that everything will be alright, even if at times we did not know if she has been talking to us or to herself.

Here there is a little bump on the darker colours of the heart DNA when our dog got sick and we did not know how to help. How many moments and imprints like this we have on our strands with the key moments if “I did not know what to do”. Too many in fact.

The beauty with this capsule in time trying to capture the vibratos is that our hearts can be so strong. The sound that I keep hearing in my mind, that energy pulsating through the walls, is a proof of resilience. The pulse raise itself for a second too long because I was anticipating otherwise. I was anticipating that in front of such a machine, capturing the hidden corners of a heart, the hurts or the joys have no place to hide anymore. All will have its mark right there and the result can be shocking.

I was now able, in the mid of a night, to thank my heart. To thank its resonance, its resilience, its pulsating vivacious frequency. At times, I have no idea at all where all this strength is coming from, and yet is real.

What I could imagine in that moment of gratitude was a waterfall. My heart resting with the falling sounds of the water, cleansing not only the mountain and the pathways, but cleansing all the vibrations into crystal clear compounds.

All the hearts I have witnessed bursting out of their chests and masterful transparent cases, were there with me, trembling with gratitude at unison. A song that I would not be able to create on my own at all.

Our minds limit our capacity to see at times. The capacity of seeing, of truly connecting with each other is limited I feel by our own deep wounds. In that waiting room where few of us were getting their hearts measured and tested, there were no visible wounds. The only concern was with our body and its immense resilience and capacity to withstand storms, to withstand joy and beauty and crazy moments of awe and beautiful emotion.

On a hypothetical plane, all things offered to us being equal, could we ask ourselves honestly, where do we stand at, capacity wise?

What is then our capacity to receive, what is our capacity to reciprocate, what is our capacity to say yes and say no, to handle things as they come, on emergency basis or at snail pace, what is our capacity to perceive reality and its impact on us?

When will we listen to the drum roll of our own heart beat and ask - how large is your capacity to hold all of me?

The antidote therefore my friends, is to create a concerto of our hearts vibrating. And hear actively and deeply to our own pulse amplified by tens of Dolby speakers. That is what I would like to hear now before surrendering to sleep.

The power of this strand of hearts forming our own DNA that stands tall the test of time.

Thank you!
